Inauguration of the Journal Club

The Department of International Studies and History held the inauguration of Journal Club on 18th August 2016 at the Conference Room, Christ University. The occasion was presided over by Dr. Anil Joseph Pinto, Registrar, Christ University, Father Jose CC, Director Department of International Studies and History and Dr. Venugopal Menon, HoD, Department of International Studies and History. Mr. Claudius and Mr. Anil from the placement Department were also present to give a briefing to the students on the opportunities available.

Amanpreet Kaur from 2nd year International Studies gave a brief introduction to Journal Club and its functioning and objectives of the club. The welcome address was delivered by Dr. Venugopal Menon. Dr. Anil Joseph Pinto in his inaugural address spoke about the existence and aims of the journal club and emphasized on the need for research and the need to have an independent thinking and the role of the university in facilitating rigorous research.

Fr. Jose spoke about the need for perfection and practice and also appreciated the efforts of the inauguration of the Journal Club. Following the speech was a short briefing by the placement cell regarding interning and career opportunities. The vote of thanks was delivered by Riya from 2nd year, bringing the programme to an end

Ajay Gudavarthy is an Associate Professor at the Centre for Political Studies of Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. He has been a visiting fellow at Goldsmiths, University of London, and a Charles Wallace Fellow at the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London.
