Panel Discussion on India's Western Neighborhood: The Afghanistan-Pakistan-Iran Triangle

Department of International Studies, Christ (deemed to be University ) , hosted a panel discussion on India's Western Neighbourhood: The Afghanistan-Pakistan-Iran Triangle in a collaborative event with the School of Conflict and Strategic Studies, N ational I nstitute of A dvanced S tudies (NIAS), Department of Political Science, St. Joseph’s College and the Department of Political Science, Bangalore University on 1 December 2017. The event was felicitated by remarks from Dr.Venugopal Menon, Head of the Department, Department of International Studies, Christ (deemed to be University ) and Fr Dr Jose CC, Head of Student affairs. St. Joseph College (Autonomous) in association with National Institute of Advanced Studies, Bangalore University and Christ University held the Panel Discussion on India – US elections: Mapping the trajectory at St. Joseph Auditorium on the 10 th of August. The event was graced by former ambassador of India to Russian Federation PS Raghavan, Lt. General Prakash Menon, Prof. Narendra Pani and. The panel discussion was chaired by prof. MJ Vinod, from Department of Political Science, Bangalore University. The event commenced with recitation of verses from religious texts seeking blessings of the almighty, followed by welcome address by Fr. Seminar on "Nuclear India: Revisiting Issues, Challenges and Threats"

Nuclear technology and its consequences is a burning topic in today’s discussion of international relations. While the world has witnessed several instances that has painted nuclear weapons in a dangerous light, they remain a necessity for the development and strength of most nation-states today. To shed some light on this vast and ever intriguing topic, the Department of International Studies and History organised a seminar on the topic “Nuclear India: Revisiting issues, challenges and threats”. The event was organized in collaboration with National Institute of Advanced Studies (NIAS). Rules for the Inter - Deanery Seminar Competition

With two weeks left and all classes gearing up for the Inter - Deanery Seminar Competition, all classes gearing up, we hereby would like to provide you with guidelines to facilitate the selection of your paper. All participants are requested to follow the rules to avoid disqualification. The event will include a two level selection process : The full paper will have to be submitted by 27 August 2017 by email to ningthoujam.singh@christuniversity.in Twenty candidates whose papers fit the criteria will be shortlisted to present their papers during the final round. The selected candidates will present a paper during final round for 12 minutes, followed by a question and answer session for 3 minutes. Format of the paper. (Times New Roman 12 pt, 1.5 spacing, 1 inch margin and page numbers at the bottom of each page). Criteria for selection in the first round: Relevance of the subject matter to the main theme. The Department of International Relations and History had organized an hour-long talk on Ethics and Politics: Reflections about Exercising Power on 9 August, 2017 at the central block seminar hall. The talk was given by the honorary guest of the day and distinguished Professor Dr Thomas Kesselring from Berne, Switzerland. The talk was compered by student council representative, Miss Deepa Mithra. The program was attended by Fr Jose CC, Director, the faculty and students of the International Relations Department. Addressing the gathering, Dr Kesselring talked on the ethical aspects related to exercise of power. He said that power should be used for helping others, working towards the wellbeing of the society and the betterment of future. Highlighting power as the foundation of politics, he compared it to regional habits and said that the ethical use of power is culturally dependent. The link between Civil Society and the State, and the resultant interactions in evolving the foreign policy are all increasingly recognized in modern times. But, it has much older history in ancient political thought of the classical period. This concept was used as a synonym to good society and the state. Lecture on China in East African Community and its implications by Floribert from 4 MAIS

A special lecture on China in East African Community and its implications was held on 8 th March in Room 612 by Floribert from Second Year International Relations. The observer for the session was Dr. Koiremba, faculty from the Department of International Relations and History. The lecture focused on the influence of China in the African Nation starting with the history of China’s engagement with the region since the early 1960s and the economic impact of China’s influence on the African Nation especially from the point of view of the Tanzania Railway of 1970s. The lecture also focused on aspects such as the quest for the seat of Un by China, Isolation of Taiwan, insignificance of ideological leanings and China’s retreat from East Africa and the political changes that were witnessed in the region. MAIS Valedictory cum Farewell Party

With the Academic Session coming to an end, the long journey with the seniors too came to an end with the Valedictory cum Farewell session held by the Department of International Studies and History on the 15 th of March at Room number 911 at 4:30PM onwards. The function started with an invocation song by first years. The function was attended by the Faculty and the students of first year and the second years. The Emcee for the day was Niyati from First Year. This was later followed by a brief report on Lyceum and Certificate Distribution for people for their participation in various events held by Lyceum PG Association. Student Seminar held on 30 January and 21 February

One of the prerequisites of today’s competitive world is having good presentation skills which is endowed with innovation, self-opinions and originality of thoughts. A seminar provides such platform for expression of such ideas and also at the same time helps us understand the various developments that are taking place in different domains and keep us informed.
