Learnings From Liverpool

The Big Hope 2, Young Leaders Congress, held at Liverpool Hope University in Liverpool, United Kingdom was an exceptional event. This event was an extension of the first Big Hope event held a decade ago. This event basically comprised of various activities, lectures, discussion forums, and learning tracks designed for each participant according to their interests. Participants were given end number of themes to choose from. Some of them were Environment & Technology, Migration, Faith, Birth Project, Women in Leadership, Education, Sports, Art & Culture, Community, Business, Health & Well-being, Disability Gains, Peace & Youth Engagement and International Learning Experiences.

For Discussion Forum my topic of choice was Environment & Technology from which I gathered some very creative and ingenious Ideas. There were engineers and managers from automobile Industry conversing and sharing with us some very authentic ways to create balance between technology and environment.

My topic of choice for my personal learning track was ‘Exploring Conservation’. I am glad I chose this topic because besides my interest for it, I also got to take field trips in nearby parks and docks which helped me make my study all the more interesting.

For this learning track, we were given a task to carefully analyse the environment and come up with the opinion of whether or not should there be a visitor’s centre built and whatever our outcome opinion was, it was displayed in the form of posters in the exhibition area.

My overall experience of this Liverpool trip was simply wonderful. It was truly once in a lifetime experience. Meeting new people from all over the world really widens your ideas and concepts about different things. This BIG HOPE 2 event has certainly provided a big hope for a better world to live in through engaging and enlightening the youth of today, preparing to make them better leaders for tomorrow.

I cannot thank enough to Christ (Deemed to be University) for this amazing opportunity. I will forever be thankful to Dr. Father Jose cc, Dr. Madhumati Deshpande and the entire faculty of International Studies and History Department for providing us with such wonderful opportunities.

Internship Experience- Indian Council of World Affairs-Avishka Ashok

My experience at the Indian Council of World Affairs has taught me the tedious process of research and the internal working of a think tank. Being a part of the core meetings and closed door conferences was a fascinating experience. I attended a meeting on the Afghan Peace Process which was attended by the Chief of Afghan High Peace Council and other delegates from Afghanistan. There was a conference on Indian - Russian relations which was attended by many researchers and ambassadors. I had the opportunity to work under research fellows at ICWA who guided me through my research paper. It was an enlightening experience as I realized the efforts that one needs to put to write a good paper. The work culture is serious and relaxed at the same time. The fellows are busy with more than 4-5 projects at the same time. They don’t waste time and are always seen working on their projects. But there are times when the fellows would come to us and talk for a while. These conversations were info...
