Skype conference with students from KU Leuven, Belgium

The Department of International Studies and History, CHRIST (Deemed to be University), organized a Skype conference with students from KU Leuven, Belgium, on 7th November, 2019. Along with students, were professors from the two institutions. The theme of discussion was post-colonialism. While, the purpose of such a confabulation was to facilitate a continuous and consistent dialogue between students who study the concept of post-colonialism from very different lenses, the session was merely an introductory one, wherein the faculty in-charge from both institutions introduced their respective class and set down basic parameters that were to be followed during the course of the interaction, which was as discussed, to extend to nearly a month.

This introductory session, set out various pre-requisites as well as requirements for the successful fruition of this interaction. The students are essentially, over multiple sessions, expected to discuss multiculturalism, migration and postcolonialism, from the knowledge that they have acquired over the course of their reading and through their own personal life experiences. The students would have to ultimately, submit a report of their interaction and learnings to their respective institutions.

The Skype conference ended with an enquiry session, with the aim to address any doubts and discrepancies regarding the arrangement of the sessions that will follow. It was concluded on a note to anticipate an insightful and an active interaction between the two institutions.

Indian Council of World Affairs is an organization where research is given most priority. As an extension of Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), the officials of the organization are senior bureaucrats and retired ambassadors. Here, the importance is given to creative research where a researcher is given the utmost freedom to pursue the topic and area for undertaking research that interests them. When I joined as an intern, I was welcomed with friendly smiles and warmth. I met the Deputy Director General (DDG), Shri. Ajaneesh Kumar (IFS), who is the reporting person. On the day of joining, he gave me an assignment of submitting a research paper by the end of the internship period. Even though, he gave me very little time to submit my research proposal, he gave me a general idea of his expectations from me. As I discussed my idea with him, he approved my topic and gave me useful pointers that help shape my research paper. The very next day, he assigned a research guide who ...
