Lyceum 2021 Inauguration

The Department of International Studies, Political Science and History, CHRIST(Deemed To Be University), organised the inaugural ceremony of Lyceum 2021(the postgraduate students’ association) on 19th August 2021. The inaugural ceremony started with a welcome note by Ms. Hanspreet Kaur and Ms. Judith Blessy, the emcees for the event. It was followed by an auspicious prayer song by Ms. Vibha Venugopal, a 2nd-year student of MAIS. Dr. Madhumati Deshpande, the HOD of the Department of International Studies, Political Science and History, was then requested to welcome the gathering formally. She spoke about the proper handing over of responsibilities to the new MAIS batch by the senior batch. She also stressed the need to utilise all available resources in the best way possible without compromise. The warm welcome address was followed by a stunning group dance performance by 1st-year students of MAIS. After the dance performance, Dr. Fr. Jose CC, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of the University and Director of Department, was welcomed to share some words of wisdom with the gathering. Dr. Fr. Jose congratulated the Beyond the Borders Blog Committee members, including Dr. Vineeth Thomas, for successfully relaunching the blog website. He emphasised the need to expose oneself as a student to the great platforms for article writing. He highlighted the commitment of CHRIST(Deemed to be University) for the growth and development of its students in academic and extracurricular aspects. He motivated the students to develop attitudes and skills to excel in the competitive world. He concluded by thanking Dr. Stefy V Joseph for her leadership role in the LYCEUM Committee. After his words of encouragement, the Student Coordinator of Blog Committee of the Department of International Studies, Mr. Granth Vanaik, was invited to formally introduce and release the ‘Beyond the Borders’ website. He expressed his heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Fr. Jose CC, Dr. Fr. Biju KC, Dr Manoharan N and Dr. Vineeth Thomas for their constant support, guidance, encouragement throughout the project. With the permission of Dr. Fr. Jose CC, the new website of Beyond the Borders was launched officially. This was followed by a music number by Ms. Nandana Nair, Mr. Granth Vanaik, and Ms. Niharika Rana from 3MAIS. After the song performance there was an enthusiastic dance perfomance by students of 3MAIS. This was followed by an introduction to the ardent LYCEUM team. Subsequently, there was a splendid song performance by 1MAIS students and an amusing skit performance by 3MAIS students. The event ended well with a vote of thanks speech delivered by Ms. Vanshika Sharma.

The Department of International Studies, Political Science and History organised a webinar on Populism titled ‘The Multifaceted Nature of Populism’ by Ajay Gudavarthy. Ajay Gudavarthy is an Associate Professor at the Centre for Political Studies of Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. He has been a visiting fellow at Goldsmiths, University of London, and a Charles Wallace Fellow at the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London. MoU with ASHOKA University – Harvard Yenching Institute

This MoU is to build academic and research resources on China Studies and related areas as a thriving discipline. It will also enable the department to create new knowledge in India about different countries, particularly on China. The MoU will help the department to provide promising scholars studying China with the opportunity to share their work and knowledge with a wider audience through Lectures, Courses, and Publications and enhance research opportunities for young post-doctoral scholars.
