TEACHERS’ DAY CELEBRATION

The Department of International Studies, Political Science and History, CHRIST (Deemed to be University), organised the Teachers’ Day celebration on 6th September 2021. The event started with a welcome note by Ms. Hanspreet Kaur and Ms. Catherine Sylvia, the emcees for the event. It was followed by a fun activity of Teacher's Day Titles Speaking, where students of 1MAIS and 3MAIS talked about the departmental professors and honoured them with titles. The presentations started with giving the title of The Visionary to Fr. Dr. Jose CC, followed by The Philomath to Dr. Madhumati Deshpande. Similarly, Dr. Vagishwari S.P. was presented with the title of Human Library and Dr. Manoharan N. with Man with a Plan. Ms. Shilpi Roy Choudhary was honored with the title of Ms. Meticulous, and Dr. Gerard Rassendran, with Mr. Assiduous. Akshay Gupta of 1MAIS gave the title of Academic Influencer to Dr. Anu Singh. After honouring Dr. M.J Vinod with the title of Captain Cool, the students of 1MAIS presented a skit revolving around the hypothetical situation of all the teachers disappearing from the world. After the short performance, the title presentation was resumed, with students sharing their experiences with the professors and thanking them for their dedication. Dr. Anurag Tripathi was given the title of The Tranquil Altruist, and Ms. Vivacious was presented for Dr. Stefy V. Joseph. Granth Vanaik talked about Dr. Madhuri Tiwari and called her The Dynamo, with Dr. Mallika Krishnaswamy being given Professor Affectueux for her sweet nature. Dr. Vineeth Thomas and Dr. Loung Nathan KK were bestowed with Mr. Ratiocinative and Creativity Inducer, respectively. The activity ended with Ms. Vaighna Raj of 1MAIS talking about Mr. Calm and Composed, Dr. Balu Sunil. The title presentation was followed by a video compilation of earlier batches and alumni of the MAIS department expressing their gratitude towards teachers. They emphasised how teachers guided them through their highs and lows during their time in the department and after graduation. The event was then followed by the declaration of results of the Talent Hunt organized by LYCEUM on 4th September 2021. Ms. Judith Blessy and Ms. Kasvi Batra introduced the four teams, Inclusive Ingenuity, Coffee Club, Axis Powers 2.0, and House of Strange. Devika Nair of House of Strange from 1MAIS won first place for Feel the beat- Dance competition. At the same time, 3MAIS student Sharika Balachandran, from Axis Powers 2.0, was declared the winner of Symphony, the Music competition. The Talkology event was won by Tejuswi Shukla of 1MAIS from House of Strange. The winner of Utopiart, the art event, was Anoushka from 1MAIS and the Axis Powers 2.0 house. Overall, the students of 1MAIS and House of Strange received the most accolades in the Talent Hunt. The event ended well with a vote of thanks delivered by Ms. Judith Blessy.

MoU with ASHOKA University – Harvard Yenching Institute

This MoU is to build academic and research resources on China Studies and related areas as a thriving discipline. It will also enable the department to create new knowledge in India about different countries, particularly on China. The MoU will help the department to provide promising scholars studying China with the opportunity to share their work and knowledge with a wider audience through Lectures, Courses, and Publications and enhance research opportunities for young post-doctoral scholars.
