Emerging trends in Non - Traditional Security: Threats and Responses: Day 2

Day 2 of the National Conference started on a more enthusiastic note post breakfast. The first session of the day was on the topic Transnational Organised Crime and Terrorism chaired by Cdr. Ashok Kumar comprising of panelists – Dr. Pushpita Das, Mr. Ndayishimiye Floribert, Neha Shetty and Andrea Melisa from Second Year International Studies, Dr. Koiremba Singh and Dr. Anshuman Behera. The discussant for the session was Dr. Anurag Tripathi. The panelists spoke on a wide range of topics ranging from Drug Trafficking to Fake Currencies and the threat of Terrorism all of which were very insightful and thought provoking.

Post Tea, the final Panel Discussion on the topic of Responding to threats chaired by Dr. Partha Ghosh was initiated which comprised of panelists – Dr. Saleem Ali and Dr. Suba Chandran with Dr. Joshy. M. Paul as the discussant. The first panelist for the session Dr. Saleem Ali before starting his talk appreciated the theme of the conference and also suggested to consider discussing on topics like Corruption, Cybercrime, Malnutrition, Health and Hygiene, education and so on and so forth the latter part of his discussion focused on the excessive expenditure on Military rather than spending on the basic human need fulfillments, He also spoke about the slave trade and response of the government. During his speech he also suggested how to convert threats into opportunities and the need to take the Make in India initiative beyond mere industrial development. The talk also gave a jist on the topics discussed by other panelists followed by a talk on Bilateral and Multilateral approaches by Dr. Subha Chandran which focused on sub – topics like Demographic Dividend, Sensitization processes, transnational issues etc., He also spoke on focusing on things that can be solved rather than those that cannot be solved. After the Question and Answer session, the Valedictory Session started which included Conference Report by Riya and Priya from second year and a valedictory address by Admiral Vijay Shankar which also included a question and answer session. The Vote of Thanks was delivered by Dr. Manoharan N. Thus ended the two days of insightful discussion equipping the young minds with new knowledge and many more takeaways.

Internship Experience - ICWA

Indian Council of World Affairs is an organization where research is given most priority. As an extension of Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), the officials of the organization are senior bureaucrats and retired ambassadors. Here, the importance is given to creative research where a researcher is given the utmost freedom to pursue the topic and area for undertaking research that interests them. When I joined as an intern, I was welcomed with friendly smiles and warmth. I met the Deputy Director General (DDG), Shri. Ajaneesh Kumar (IFS), who is the reporting person.
