National Conference on Non - Traditional Security: Threats and Responses: Day 1

The two days of a fruitful, engaging and enriching debate on National Conference on Emerging trends in Non – Traditional Security in collaboration with Jammu Central University commenced today at the Kuriakose Auditorium. The chief guest for the day was Prof. Mallika Joseph. D.R. Karthikeyan, Former Director General of CBI and Former Director General of Human Rights Commission was the keynote speaker. The function was graced by Mr. Pankaj Madan from Konrad Adenauer Stiftung.
The function began with an inaugural dance by the first year students of International Studies which was followed by an invocation song. The welcome address was delivered by Mr. Venugopal. B. Menon and an introduction to the keynote speaker was given by Dr. Madhumati Deshpande.  Dr. Anil Joseph Pinto, registrar delivered the inaugural address where he stressed on the need to analyze and research policies and the events happening. Mr. D.R. Karthikeyan, spoke in brief about the emerging challenges in Non- Traditional Security and also appreciated the University for holding the conference and complimented on the greenery of eh college. Mr. Pankaj Madan spoke about the scholarship opportunities provided in German universities. The inauguration concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Vagishwari SP which then followed by a Panel Discussion on Conceptual issues comprising of Dr. Madhumati, Prof. Mallika Joseph, Dr. Rina Kashyap and Dr. Saurabh. The main topic of discussion was Non – Traditional Security Narratives and Human Security by Prof. Mallika Joseph and Rina Kashyap respectively the panel discussion was chaired by Dr. Madhumati Deshpande. While Prof. Mallika Joseph spoke about the Narratives and Non – Traditional Security Discourses, Prof. Rina Kashyap focused on Human Security and the role of the Commissions in Human Security.

The next session was on the topic – Environment and Climate Change chaired by Dr. Venugopal Menon comprising of Dr. Sudhakar, Prof. Mallika Joseph and Dr. Priyanka Mallick. Presentations related to the change in the glaciers, utilization of resources and Indo – China relations with regards to water sharing were discussed. The final discussion was on refugees and internal displacement problems chaired by Dr. Vagishwari, comprising of panelists – Dr. Surendra, Dr. Partha Ghosh, Dr. Mayilvaganan and Dr. Chaitanya Pradeep. The discussion dealt with the problems posed due to migration crisis and refugees due to wars and problems faced by India due to the migration of people from countries like Bangladesh. As engaging was the discussion, so was the Question and Answer session that followed every panel discussion and thus the day came to a fruitful end with new knowledge and new learning
