Talk on International Environment Law by Mr. Himanshu Upadhyay

The Department of International Studies and History organised a talk on International Environment Law at the Council Room on 9^th November 2016 for first and second year MAIS students. The chief guest for the day was Himanshu Upadhyay from the Azim Premji University. The welcome address was delivered by Dr. Manoharan post which the talk on the International Environment Law commenced. During the talk, various aspects of Environment Law were discussed such as Multilateral and Bilateral agreements. He also touched upon Multilateral Environmental Agreements and about the significance oceans since the historical times

The scope of the subject of International Environmental Law were also discussed followed by different treaties and protocols that were implemented for the safeguarding of environment. The speaker drew a link between the smog that has engulfed the city of Delhi and how Environmental Law can help in avoiding such situations. He also spoke about the processes involved in the implementation of Multilateral Environment Agreement.

He also touched on the illegal hunting and poaching of animals. The talk also traced the history of establishment of National Green Tribunal and spoke about the need to have an action plan. This was followed by an interaction session after which a vote of thanks was delivered by Riya from Second Year MAIS, bringing the engaging session to a close.

Internship Experience- Indian Council of World Affairs-Avishka Ashok

My experience at the Indian Council of World Affairs has taught me the tedious process of research and the internal working of a think tank. Being a part of the core meetings and closed door conferences was a fascinating experience. I attended a meeting on the Afghan Peace Process which was attended by the Chief of Afghan High Peace Council and other delegates from Afghanistan. There was a conference on Indian - Russian relations which was attended by many researchers and ambassadors.
