The
Department of International Studies and History, held a guest lecture by Prof.
Thomas Flamson on Refugee Crisis on 25th January at the Sky View on
the topic – Refugee Crisis. The programme began with an introduction to Prof.
Thomas Flamson, Head of Department, and History. This was followed by a brief
presentation on the migration crisis. The talk began with a
short slide show on the map of Germany during the World War II and migration
problems have been engulfing the country of Germany.
He
spoke about the refugees and the Guest workers (Gastarbeiter) and the impact of
the Economic Crisis of 1973 leading to the stopping of the recruitment drive of
the guest workers. The lecture also comprised of statistics showing the
diversity of cultures and religions of the refugees and the countries from
where they came. This was then followed by a short question and answers
session, post which the programme concluded with a token of appreciation gifted
by Dr. Manoharan and a vote of thanks by Asmita Michael
