Student Seminar held on 30 January and 21 February

One of the prerequisites of today’s competitive world is having good presentation skills which is endowed with innovation, self-opinions and originality of thoughts. A seminar provides such platform for expression of such ideas and also at the same time helps us understand the various developments that are taking place in different domains and keep us informed. An initiative taken by Department of International Studies and History started the first of its kind, student seminar on issues of the 21st Century, which included Globalization, Technology Diplomacy and Geopolitics spanning over three months. The first seminar topic Globalization Threats and Backlashes was held on held on 30th January 2017 at Room no. 505. The function being presided over by Dr. Venugopal, Fr. Jose, Dr. Madhumati Deshpande, Dr. Priyanka Mallick and Dr. Joshy Paul. The chief guest for the for the function was Dr. Sandeep, Coordinator of the School of Law, who delivered the inaugural address. He stressed on the importance of discussing such issues and thereby reaching on solutions and also understanding the rends in the domain and congratulated the department for the initiative.
The function than began with the first presentation made by Bhargav Acharya of 1st MAIS explaining the different threats that have been posed due to globalisation. Other domains with respect to threats and backlashes of globalisation followed by other sub topics relevant to globalisation. Every topic was followed by an interactive session which helped in gaining a better understanding of the topic. The programme finally came to an end with a vote of thanks by Adity Patwari and a token of appreciation given to the chief guest by Dr. Madhumati Deshpande.

The second student seminar was held on 21st February at Room no.505. on the topic technology and diplomacy. The Emcee for the event was Shruti Anup Kumar from 1st MAIS. Papers on transportation, E – Commerce, Surveillance, etc., were presented from the point of view of Technology diplomacy and followed by comments and observations and question and answers. The programme ended with a remark by Fr. Jose CC and vote of thanks by Greta from 1st MAIS. Thus, bringing the knowledge based session to an end. The next seminar on geopolitics is slated to be held on 10th March at Room no.505, Central Block

The Multifaceted Nature of Populism

The Department of International Studies, Political Science and History organised a webinar on Populism titled ‘The Multifaceted Nature of Populism’ by Ajay Gudavarthy. Ajay Gudavarthy is an Associate Professor at the Centre for Political Studies of Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. He has been a visiting fellow at Goldsmiths, University of London, and a Charles Wallace Fellow at the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London. MoU with ASHOKA University – Harvard Yenching Institute
