BATTLE OF BRAINS-2018-19

Lyceum, the post graduate students’ association of the Department of International Studies and History, CHRIST (Deemed to be University) has been organising its annual fest, Battle of Brains since 2014. Over the years the event has seen an increase in footfall and participation from different departments.  This year Battle of Brains was conducted on 29th January, 2019.  The fest commenced with the inauguration ceremony at Room No 105, Central Block, where a lamp was ceremoniously lit by the professors of the Department, along with the student conveners. The inauguration ceremony was immediately followed by various competitions. It comprised of three events, namely: Classical Debate, Foreign Policy Quiz and Just a Minute. DEPARTMENT ALUMNI MEET

CHRIST (Deemed to be university) organised its 49 th Alumni meet on 26 January, 2019. The alumni meet is conducted every year in order to reconnect with the alumni’s and celebrate their success and various achievements. This alumni meet was one special event as CHRIST celebrated its Golden Jubilee year. The event was presided over by the Alumni Association President followed by Felicitating the Principal who have served the office.              Following this was the Alumni meet of Department of International Studies and History. The meeting started off with the welcome note by Dr. Madhumati Deshpande addressing students by warm welcome speech and kind of experience that the students have created in building the milestones of the department through various achievements in the recent years. LYCEUM the Post Graduate Association for the department of International Studies and History wishes to organize an inter-departmental Academic one day Fest 29th January, 2019. Objectives of the fest: 1) To increase awareness about the department of International Studies and History in general and Masters in International Studies in particular. Making our presence felt on campus. 2) To allow space for inter-disciplinary interaction and learning. 3) To encourage an environment of greater questioning, analysis and discussion. The schedule of the event is as follows: Inauguration of the Fest Date: 29th January, 2019 Time: 9 a. m – 9:30 a. m Venue:  105 The inauguration will begin with a short prayer and the lighting of the lamp. IR-MODEL UNITED NATIONS International Relations MUN was organised by the Lyceum, the post graduate students association of Department of International Studies and History, CHRIST (Deemed to be University) on the 23 rd of January, 2019.   The Security Council in its one-day deliberation took cognisance of the issue of “Regional and Sub-Regional Organisations Corporation with United Nations to combat terrorism and organised crime” The Deliberations began with nations attempting to define and understand the concept of “Terrorism” and its differentiations form the idea of organised crimes and how they have differing connotations in the International Arena. Many member state representatives seem to agree on the idea, while some disagreed to the concept and argued on the fact that they have an interweaving concept and that many terror organisations have used the organised crime rings to transport drugs and other illicit materials around the world. STUDENTS’ CAPACITY BUILDING WORKSHOP ORGANISED BY THE QUAD IN COLLABORATION WITH KONRAD ADENAUR STIFTUNG UNDER INTERNATIONAL PEACE RESEARCH INITIATIVE (IPRI) A one day workshop for young scholars, organised by the QUAD in collaboration with Konrad Adenaur Stiftung under International Peace Research Initiative (IPRI) banner was held at CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Bengaluru on 11 December 2018. Scholars from National Institute of Advanced Studies, Christ (Deemed to be University), Bangalore University and St Joseph’s College presented papers on the theme ‘Global Conflicts and Peace Processes’ during the workshop. The workshop was conducted in three sessions dealing with topics related to global conflicts and peace processes, regional and bilateral conflicts, and environmental conflicts covering contemporary global issues like migration, civil wars, foreign policies, territorial disputes and geopolitics.
