BATTLE OF BRAINS 2019 - Schedule

LYCEUM the Post Graduate Association for the department of International Studies and History wishes to organize an inter-departmental Academic one day Fest 29th January, 2019.


Objectives of the fest:

1) To increase awareness about the department of International Studies and History in general and Masters in International Studies in particular. Making our presence felt on campus.
2) To allow space for inter-disciplinary interaction and learning.
3) To encourage an environment of greater questioning, analysis and discussion.

The schedule of the event is as follows:


Inauguration of the Fest

Date: 29th January, 2019
Time: 9 a. m – 9:30 a. m
Venue:  105
The inauguration will begin with a short prayer and the lighting of the lamp.
The Chief Guest shall give the inaugural address, which will be followed by a brief introduction of the Lyceum and its objectives.
The Chief Guest shall then declare the Fest open.

Keeping in mind the aforementioned objectives, the following events have been discussed and decided upon.

1) Just a minute (JAM)

Date: 29th January, 2019

Venue: Assembly Hall

Time: 11a. m – 22 p. m

Just-A-Minute (or JAM) is an event that requires the participants to speak on any given topic non-stop for one minute. The participant picks one chit among many, gets 30 seconds to prepare herself/ himself and then begins his/her speech. It will be an inter-departmental event and entries from all departments shall be invited. The focus shall be on current affairs in the field of Politics, Economics,
History and youth- oriented issues.

Prizes: 2 Best Speakers

2) International Affairs Quiz 

Last Date of Submission: 29th January, 2019.

10 a. m to 12 p.m

Venue: 105

Participants from across departments in the University shall be invited. The winners shall be announced during the valedictory ceremony.

1st and 2nd Prize

3) Classical Debate

Date: 21st January, 2019

Time:  11a. m – 12 a. m (Round 1)
          12 a. m – 01 p. m (Round 2)
           1 p. m – 3 p. m (Finals)

Venue: Panel Room

Debate Structure – Teams of 2 students compete with each other. Each team debates upon the topic as interpreted by the team that wins the toss.
Both teams get 1 minute 30 seconds each to make their opening remarks
2 minutes for their core arguments and defense
And 1 minute 30 seconds to make their closing statements.
The Adjudicators decide who wins and awards points for the same.
This is an interdepartmental event

Internship Experience- Indian Council of World Affairs-Avishka Ashok

My experience at the Indian Council of World Affairs has taught me the tedious process of research and the internal working of a think tank. Being a part of the core meetings and closed door conferences was a fascinating experience. I attended a meeting on the Afghan Peace Process which was attended by the Chief of Afghan High Peace Council and other delegates from Afghanistan. There was a conference on Indian - Russian relations which was attended by many researchers and ambassadors. I had the opportunity to work under research fellows at ICWA who guided me through my research paper. It was an enlightening experience as I realized the efforts that one needs to put to write a good paper. The work culture is serious and relaxed at the same time. The fellows are busy with more than 4-5 projects at the same time. They don’t waste time and are always seen working on their projects.
