International Association of Political Science Students (IAPSS) organised the UN75

International Association of Political Science Students (IAPSS) organised the UN75 consultation in partnership with UN75, UN2020, and SDG Impact Awards to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the United Nation’s founding. The event was conducted in the form of Two consultations. 1. Youth, Peace & Security (Middle East) on 2nd September 2020 2. Youth & Civic Engagement (Pan-Asia) on 8th September 2020 I was bestowed with the opportunity to volunteer at this initiative. The event emphasized upon the areas of young people’s participation in politics (students and electoral), leadership and community involvement; aiming to question the vitality of the existing system of education. It was based on the collective agreement that, the youth can serve as a gateway for broader engagement in finding solutions to local and global concerns like fighting injustice, checking on access to political power, peace building, political activism, and educating the existing and future communities. The lack on a blanket definition for inequality was emphasized in response to which the proposed solution was to have a more inclusive policy that would indulge the locals across rural and urban areas. What made these discussions extremely absorbing was the fact that the participants included citizens of Pakistan, Srilanka, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, India, Mongolia, Philippines, and many other countries across the globe. This directly resulted in various policy inputs from the youth of diverse backgrounds and cultures. The discussions on education, put patriarchal social systems in India, and Pakistan against societies which assign more importance to the education of women and their participation in politics (like Mongolia). A possible recommendation to eliminate the vacuum in the education system rests in the vocational empowerment of people. The panellists and the participants also addressed the impact of climate change and environmental degradation on the educational system highlighting the new methods of approaching education during the COVID-19 pandemic. All the participants emphasized on the need for urgent movement towards the preservation of climate and the ecosystem. This global movement, is believed to rise from an individual context and then eventually branching out to the entire globe. The discussion on the use of technology in the modern system of education resulted in a debate on if all the products of technology work towards the benefit of the students. The issue of cyber security was addressed with a solution in strict Monitoring of internet and its usage. Via these discussions, an all-inclusive list of recommendations and concerns are to be put forward to the United Nations on it’s75th Anniversary. This event aimed to instil a sense of belief in the UN among the youth making the Organisation approachable to young individuals. It was a privilege to be an active participant for a global conference which brought Indian Youth a step closer to global institutionalism and peace building. I would like to thank the department of International Studies, History and Political Science, CHRIST University, for providing this opportunity to me. PALAPARTHY NAGA ANAGHA LAKSHMI
