Battle of Brains - 2 day fest by Department of International Studies and History


The Department of International Studies and History held its first ever departmental fest, The Battle of Brains on the 12th and 14th of December. The inaugural ceremony was presided by Dr. Venugopal Menon, HOD, Department of International Studies and History, Dr. Vagishwari SP and Rev. Fr. Benny Thomas, Director, School of Law, The event commenced with an invocation song, seeking the blessings of almighty, followed by a welcome address by Dr. Vagishwari and introduction to the event by Dr. Venugopal Menon. Father Benny Thomas through his words of encouragement boosted the morale of the participants and congratulated the department for their efforts.
The first event - Just a Minute started for the day saw students talking on various global issues. These were a source of enrichment of the existing knowledge, followed by Mock United Nations where students represented different countries in the General Assembly and Security Council. The agenda of MUN was Islamic State. The Chair and Vice Chair for the General Assembly was Riddhima Jaitley from MAIS and Sarthak Roy from School of Law and for the Security Council the Chair and Vice Chair was Pearl and Ajay. K. The aim of the competition was to give the students an understanding on the functioning of United Nations. With the conclusion of the MUN Session, the Day 1 of the session came to a close.
Day 2 saw three competitions which included Poster Making, Essay Writing and Classical Debate. This was followed by a valedictory function. The guest of honor was Dr. John Joseph Kennedy, dean, Humanities and Social Sciences. The function started with a welcome speech by Dr. Venugopal Menon, followed by an event report by Chitresh Shrivastva and a talk by Dr. John Joseph Kennedy. This was followed by the debate finals after which prize distribution took place and the winners were felicitated by Dr. John Joseph Kennedy. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Koiremba Singh Thus, the two days filled with fun and knowledge came to a fruitful end.

Internship Experience- Indian Council of World Affairs-Avishka Ashok

My experience at the Indian Council of World Affairs has taught me the tedious process of research and the internal working of a think tank. Being a part of the core meetings and closed door conferences was a fascinating experience.
