Battle of the brains - A two day fest conducted by Lyceum PG Association, Department of International Studies and History, Christ University

Battle of Brains is a two day fest hosted by the Lyceum PG Association of Department of International Studies and History to facilitate not only interaction of the department with other departments, but also to enable to create an environment of debates, discussions, analysis and questioning amongst members of diverse departments and making them aware of the course and the opportunities that it offers. Here are the details of the two day fest. 

1)      Just a minute (JAM)
Date: 13th December, 2016
Venue: Panel Room
Time: 11 p. m – 2 p. m (Preliminary Round)
           3 p. m – 4 p. m (Finals)
Just-A-Minute (or JAM) is an event that requires the participants to speak on any given topic non-stop for one minute. The participant picks one chit among many, gets 1 minute to prepare herself/ himself and then begins his/her speech. It will be an intra-departmental event. The focus shall be on current affairs in the field of Politics, Economics, History and youth- oriented issues.
Prizes: 2 Best Speakers

2)      Essay Writing
Last Date of Submission: 10th December, 2016. 9 a. m
Participants from across departments in the University shall be invited to submit their essays on a pre- determined topic in 1200- 1500 word essay format. The winners shall be announced during the valedictory ceremony.
1st and 2nd Prize

3)      Classical Debate
Date: 14th December, 2016
Time: 9 a. m – 11 a. m (Round 1)
          11 a. m – 12 p. m (Round 2)
           1 p. m – 3 p. m (Finals)
Venue: Panel Room & Seminar Room
Debate Structure – Teams of 2 students compete with each other. Each team debates upon the topic as interpreted by the team that wins the toss.
Both teams get 1 minute 30 seconds each to make their opening remarks
5 minutes for their core arguments and defense
And 2 minute 30 seconds to make their closing statements.
The Adjudicators decide who wins and awards points for the same.
This is an interdepartmental event

Most Promising Debater (To encourage 1st time debaters) 

4)      Model United Nations (MUN)
Date: 13th December, 2016
Time: 10 a. m to 3 p. m
Venue: Panel Room, Seminar room and 612
A simulation of the proceedings of the United Nations, to give students a practical working experience of the United Nations and its various organs. This event shall be exclusively for students of International Studies.

5)      Poster Making
Date: 13th December, 2016
Time:
Venue: Panel Room, Seminar Room and 612
Prizes: Best Poster



Valedictory Session
Time – 3p.m – 4 p. m
Date – 14th December, 2016
Venue – Seminar Room, Block II
Will include the distribution of prizes, the 2- day Fest report and the Vote of Thanks.
